A(I)RT & YOUTH: Erasmus+ Project Cultivates Critical Skills in AI and Art for Young Creatives

WIDE ANDCO (Luxembourg), Inter Alia (Greece), Sihtasutus Tartu 2024 (Estonia), and In Connection (Poland) collaborate on a 13-month project Erasmus+ project, running from March 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025. Focused on the fusion of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the art world. The initiative aims to equip young participants with skills in comprehending this intersection.

In an era where technology plays a significant role in creative industries, „A(I)RT & YOUTH” endeavors to offer young people, artists, youth workers, and youth-focused organizations an opportunity to explore the advantages and challenges presented by AI in the realm of art. Through a series of activities, the project seeks to raise awareness about the transformative potential of innovative technologies while equipping participants with the skills necessary for critical evaluation and adaptation in the digital age.

The primary goal of „A(I)RT & YOUTH” is to foster a deep understanding of AI’s impact on creativity, arts, and culture. With a focus on topics such as AI and data usage, digital youth work, and the evolving landscape of artistic expression, the project aims to facilitate meaningful dialogue and hands-on learning experiences for all involved.

Project activities:


Training for youth workers and partners staff: Equipping facilitators with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively guide young people through the changing landscape of art sector.

Youth Mobility: The core of the project, bringing together 20 young participants and accompanying youth workers from 4 different countries for a five-day immersive experience in Tartu, Estonia. Participants will collaborate on creative projects, exploring the nuances of 'traditionally’ created art versus AI-generated art pieces during the Capital of Culture initiative

Transferable activities and training: „A(I)rt for youth” initiatives, including local events, toolkits, and an online conference, designed to extend the project’s impact beyond the core participants and into broader communities.

Fostering critical skills and understanding in the intersection of AI and art can empower a new generation of creative thinkers and innovators. A(I)RT & YOUTH project aims to inspire curiosity, creativity, and collaboration, ultimately shaping a future of art.

Z Kobietami - Patriotkami

‘Hackart’ is a project supporting interdisciplinary (scriptwriting, drawing, storytelling, non-fiction art) artistic collaboration to spread knowledge about women’s history. It includes a comic book hackathon on women patriots, preceded by three online workshops on the creation of graphic novels. The hackathon lasted one day and brought together 18 participants, whose work was facilitated by art and comics professionals. The event  resulted in a presentation of comics and networking between participants. The aftermath of the hackathon is be the publication of a printed anthology of all the hackathon works and their exhibition.

Project objectives:

  • to broaden knowledge of the history of women who have made a major contribution to Polish history
  • to develop the artistic competencies of young people
  • change the form of presenting relevant information and historical biographies and inspire young people to use contemporary art forms
  • carry out an interdisciplinary project in which young people expand their awareness of the resources they have and how they can use them to make a real impact on reality 
  • conduct cutting-edge workshops and hackathon that engage people with different resources and teach them how they can collaborate and co-create

Project activities:

Three online workshops for hackathon participants, led by specialists in storytelling, historical research and comics. A specialist/specialist in the area was recruited for each workshop. These were people with strong links to the world of comics, authorities in their field. Each workshop lasted three hours and was led by a different person.

Next, participants take part in a 1-day comic book hackathon.  Each person’s goal was to create a comic book about a real-life female character of their choice during the hackathon. The whole group was divided into smaller teams where they could consult on the progress of their work on an ongoing basis. The hackathon was conclude with a presentation of the work with feedback from art and comics professionals. The presentation was followed by an informal closing with small refreshments for participant

All the comics created during the hackathon were included in a publication entitled. ‘Hackart. Comics about women’. The published book has 96 pages, is published in A5 format, printed in an edition of 100 copies. The publishing house has its own ISBN number. The comic creators themselves submitted descriptions for their comics, which were then edited and placed in the publication. Each participant received two copies of the publication, which was also sent to 53 libraries and cultural institutions. 

All the works will be later presented in an exhibitions.
